LA MARQUE — One man was killed and a woman was critically wounded Sunday night when gunfire erupted inside a car on Interstate 45.
The man charged in the shooting was riding in the back seat, La Marque police said.
Michael Ray Graves, 32, of Texas City, who was driving the Toyota four-door car north on I-45, was shot twice in the head and killed, Interim Police Chief Kirk Jackson said.
Amethyst Diane Norwood, 26, of Angleton, who was Graves’ front-seat passenger, was shot once.
Kenneth Wayne Henderson, 36, who was in the back seat, suffered a broken arm when the car crashed into a Texas Department of Public Safety traffic camera pole in the 1600 block of I-45 north about 7:45 p.m.
Police said the three were having an argument when Henderson pulled a .38-caliber revolver.
Henderson was charged with aggravated assault and was to be transferred to the Galveston County Jail on Monday, where he would be held on $250,000 bond.
Murder charges were pending the results of forensic tests, Jackson said.
Graves was pronounced dead at the scene. Norwood was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch’s John Sealy Hospital, where she was in critical condition in the intensive care unit Monday afternoon, Jackson said.
